❌ Treadmills ❌
Due to playing football last week and not stretching before or after, I managed to get a severe case of DOMS this week 🙂🙃
This made @runeverydayjanuary extremely hard to get motivated for, but I struggled on and managed to finish the week with 20miles under my belt! To get over 20, meant 6 miles today and with it snowing, I decided to hit up the ‘dreadmill’. WHAT A STRUGGLE.
I applaud anyone who manages to happily do miles on one of them week in, week out. I thought I was pretty strong mentally when it came to running, but completing these 6 miles today really tested me mentally. It was SO boring! 😅.
Anyways, bath time and a look ahead to a new week of racking up the miles 👊🏼.

Like these. Who will get up early on a Saturday morning to run around the park in pouring rain so that you don’t have to run alone. Throwing it back to yesterday and bandit running Burgess Park @parkrunuk with @raecharles1984 including a special appearance from @mralexmorrison ♥️ what a great way to kick off the day and the first of my double run days in prep for @thespeedproject in March. The second run of the day didn’t go quite so well, with my calf muscle giving up 5 miles in, but we shalln’t dwell and instead look forward to some rest and a sports massage later today. It can’t always be a bed of roses now, can it?
4 miles in the snow this morning ❄️ I loved every step of today! A beautiful way to start my Sunday ⛄️ Nothing can beat a good run in the woods, in the snow to clear your head. Why can’t it snow more often?? #onlyabitchilly#reallysubtlehat

Yes it rained for 100% of the time on my 20 miles Sunday run. At first it was miserable but it doesn’t take long before I’m splashing through puddles like a kid in wellies.
This is my longest run for some time so I was a bit apprehensive at first. Worried I might struggle in the latter stages but I actually felt stronger and stronger as the miles ticked by.
I listened to @rachel_running_for_my_life on @marathontalk. She was discussing her new book ‘Running For My Life’. I’ve nearly finished the book and it’s brilliant. As she discussed the book, all I could think was how much I can relate to her words (both spoken and written). She has been through ups and downs and really feels that running has saved her. I feel the exact same way. At some points it almost felt like I was being interviewed because she was vocalising how I feel about life and running. It really does change your life.
Who else has been out doing their long run? Everyone else soaked too? Or are there some lucky runners out there in the sunshine?
SUNDAY STEADY RUN
Probably the best thing about my current training plan is that I’m now working with paces, which allows me to focus better. I’ve never been great at pacing myself, so previous long run paces would have been all over the place. Now, my goal is set, and my focus is on hitting those target paces. 🎯
Today that meant I had the easiest 11- mile run ever- one where I could actually see myself covering this pace for 26.2 miles. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for @londonmarathon, and it’s got me feeling CONFIDENT again. 👀 forward and focused- I’m coming for you London.
90 minutes of trail running/walking with the dogs this morning, about 6 miles in the can. We went up to Winterfold Forest to check out the snow and then across to the Pitch Hill windmill before heading back down to the village. Found going up really tough on my left calf and ankle but coming down was a breeze! #running#ukrunchat#trailrunning#runningwithdogs#snowrunning
Couldn’t run yesterday because a) I don’t run 3 days on the trot and b) I was doing a tax return 😐Had this been a slow run day I’d have quite happily had a plod around dodging the ice but there’s no way I was risking it at 7:40 pace so dreadmill it was. Yes, fucking 11 miles! Luckily I had the company of Jess Glynne, Sia & Pink and tbf the way the run was structured it went pretty quickly. Had a good 20 mins of stretching and yoga afterwards too. Now for a shower and more housework before the joint in the slow cooker is ready for dinner. No rest for the wicked..... #sundayrunday#dreadmill#wintertraining#marathonrunner#londonmarathon#runrunrun#ukrunchat#womensrunning#runnergirl#awomansworkisneverdone
So I went to the National running show to not only pick up some tips but also pick up some new trainers and clothing....came home with more gels and protein bars...massive fail 😂
At least I'm fueled through my marathon training though.
However I am looking for recommendations on footwear. I've ran in a couple of pairs of Nike the last ones being flex fury 2. Really never got on with either pair. Had four pairs of New Balance but suffered quite a bit with blisters. My last pair were Karimor which I actually loved but they are done after only 350-400 miles .
I'm a size 12 in running shoes so I don't want anything that makes me look like I'm wearing flippers or clown feet and I'm dad to two boys so don't want anything ridiculously expensive that requires me selling a kidney 😂.
Today was LONG Run day. The past two long runs were cut short due to niggles on the outside of my knee, so I think my IT BAND is playing up again. Probably due to being a little too dormant over December time, not enough stretching, rolling & strength, sitting for hours watching game of thrones in the same position 🙈. So the past two weeks I've been focussing on strength & conditioning, stretching and rolling my IT band.
So, I took to the trails of Kent and ran in the stunning snow. It was absolutely beautiful. I didn't look at pace or time and just enjoyed being outside, running across beautiful countryside. My knee played up at 9km so spent the next 4km running/walking/getting lost in woods and fields but it was super fun 😍 knee held out. Thank god.
Massive kudos to everyone out there in the elements this weekend 👊
A half marathon 12 minute official PB, concluding another 40 mile #marathontraining week, which also contained a tough trail race? 🤔
Too damn right I’ll take that! 😁
This all makes me so excited about what’s to come! To achieve this, so early on in marathon training, with the weight of a baby elephant sat on my chest.... who knows! I’d decided to take it easier, use it as a training run. I need to push it now and see where I’m at! 🙏🏼 Huge well done to those IG peeps I bumped into today! Amazing running! 🙌🏼 Happy #sundayrunday ❤️ P.s yes the #medal ribbon date is wrong. Like some strange time travel! 🤪
RUNNERS ⚠️ I've had lots of you guys training for April marathons that are all coming in with foot and ankle issues largely attributed to tightness and weakness. Look after your feet, they have to carry you 26.2 miles soon, plus all the other miles on the build up to that (as if I needed to remind you) 👣👣. Here's a few stretches that you might want to add to your repertoire 1) soleus stretch 2) plantar fascia self release 3) peroneal stretch (push the ankle out in a diagonal direction 4) plantar fascia/ toe flexors stretch
Remember, if something keeps getting tight no matter how much you release it or stretch it, it's getting tight for a reason - identify the area of weakness and strengthen the ankle ✌️
Thank you so much to all the members of @chorltonrunners for their generosity in funding my race entry to the @londonmarathon.
Less than 14 weeks and I’ll be back on the streets of London ready to soak up the incredible atmosphere and run such an iconic marathon for the third time. I realise how lucky this makes me. So many people would love the opportunity to run this race. For those of you who have been unsuccessful in the ballot I urge you to not give up. Keep applying and one day you will get in and run in this wonderful race.
The London Marathon has provided me with experiences, memories and friends to last a lifetime. I can’t wait to line up this year alongside my fellow @swanseaukwal; friends I have made through running; all of the friends I have made through IG; and @david_wyeth - the friendship borne out of 2 runners with an unlikely meeting but both with the same passion for running and the determination to finish what they started.
Watch out London 💪
Who else will be there? Let’s meet up afterwards.
