Here’s a couple of pics from our two woman silent protest at the City & State along with COBRA (the nyc correction officers union) ran panel on closing #rikers. The room was filled with white #realestatedevelopers and political investors. 🤷🏽♀️ typical NYC funders bullshit and if you’re reading this and thinking I’m Exaggerating then please watch one of the videos of the event and listen to the language as they scare participants by discussing New jails in their communities and how that would impact their real estate property value even mentioned parking concerns from all the officers now needing to park their cars in the community. it was completely about real estate and money not about people lives and definitely not those directly impacted by the choices that these people in the room make. I decided that creating a scene in this Bougie ass environment would be a complete waste of time and I’d be giving them access to photos or videos of myself and my intern being thrown out, extra things for them to spin negatively regarding advocates. So instead I got up at 2 am and made signs on any and every topic I thought they might mention. Then I figured out the font I needed and made signs on both sides of each paper. That way the panelist AND those behind us could see the many messages I typed. We began rotating them throughout the entire panel and Q& A session. We didn’t disrupt the organizers function, were able to assist in controlling the narrative without verbally speaking a single word and even got councilman @williamsjumaane to acknowledge our protest and mention one of our questions regarding including formerly incarcerated individuals into these conversations on record. I’d say it was well worth the 2 am prep, 7 am arrival into my office and 8 am arrival to this event. So marching might not be your thing, shit after my #brain#surgery, getting beat up by NYPD while trying to lawfully protest is no longer my thing but I was apart of amazing circles before that, also effectively created small pockets of change of oppressed people. Get involved, there’s room for everyone #whosinyourcircle and what are you doing for #humanity. - Dr. V #armybrat#bksamirah
How many times was I told "it's all in your head" or "you're just faking it" before people believed me? Well, it wasn't until my problems were labeled as "endometriosis" that people started to believe me. And even after, there were still people that tried to convince me it was just a "bad period" and to "just take some ibuprofen" . How many times did I nearly convince myself that they were right? More times than I can count for sure. Even after being properly diagnosed in Washington with endo and adeno, and even after surgery was scheduled, I still had a little bit in the back of my mind that thought it probably isn't that bad and I probably don't really need help. I remember being so nervous before my first appointment in Washington because part of me was terrified that she wouldn't find anything wrong, and tell me that I was fine. This right here is why awareness needs to be raised. No one believed anything was wrong at first, and so I stopped believing it myself. Even now I sometimes have my doubts. I have scars on my stomach and pictures taken of my insides during surgery to prove otherwise, but somewhere in the back of my mind there's still a tiny whisper saying "you're just faking it." Endometriosis is a real illness that should be taken very seriously, even if it's not always visible. 🎗 #endometriosis#adenomyosis#invisibleillness#yellowforendo#endometriosisawareness#endometriosisawarenessmonth#surgery#endowarrior#1in10#adenowarrior#endo
It’s been 8 weeks since Riley’s #tplo#surgery. His follow up x-rays look good and he is now officially considered healed. So, now we keep rebuilding muscle and reminding him to use that leg and hopefully he’ll be back to normal dog operations before we know it! ❤️ #rehab#recovery#physicaltherapy#dogsofinstagram

Hi my name is Diana! I had a really rough start to life. I somehow found myself dumped on the highway where I was hit by a car. A Good Samaritan took me to the emergency vet but their protocol was to send me to animal services where I immediately ended up on the euthanasia list. Foster mama luckily saved me and immediately brought me to the orthopedic surgeon. They did surgery to fix my broken pelvis but unfortunately I had severe nerve damage in both my back legs. At first I couldn’t even use the litterbox on my own and would urinate where I was laying. Foster mama had to do physical therapy with me multiple times a day to get my legs stronger and eventually I began starting to stand! And then use the litterbox! Now 2 months later I am all healed up and ready for my forever family! I still have some weakness in my back legs sometimes and they slip out from under me but the surgeon said it will take about 8 months for the muscles to fully heal and it’s best I do that in my forever home where I can have free roam of the entire house. Unfortunately at foster mamas house I can’t do that and I need to walk around to get stronger. I’m a really affectionate kitty who loves to be pet and snuggled. I love the small dogs in the foster home and do okay with kitties as long as they aren’t overwhelming (some of Foster mamas kitties are too much for me). One or two calm kitties I will do fine with. I know most people don’t want a “broken” cat as I’ve been called but I promise I have so much love to give if you give me a chance! If you are interested in adopting me or would like more information about me please DM us or email Foster mama at [email protected]
Love and purrs,
