This textbook has been highly regarded by so many medics, including myself. The impact of this legendary book is immeasurable and it still stands the test of time!
Surgery Day! Being able to operate on someone's eyes is such a privilege and so rewarding. Even after 11 years of operating solo as an attending or in private practice, I still have these quirky things I do before surgery. I think most surgeons have Type A personalities (except for my husband, who is such a Type B). We like things ordered and preferably in the exact same way every time, at least in the OR (or for me, in my entire life). I think some of these things are hold overs from residency. First, I never drink caffeine on operating days. Also, when my surgical center switched the scrubs, I really had a hard time giving up the dark blue for the gray. I just *felt* like the dark blues brought me good luck. And, last, I always say a quick prayer, specifically when I am scrubbing for surgery. What specific routines do you do before embarking on something important? #powerofprayer#surgeonslife#ophthalmology#docsofinsta
Two weeks ago have a cuddle with my new niece at a dinner my sweet sisters organized.
There is something special about baby snuggles, I think the pureness of their souls is uplifting.
It has been a particularly grey day and this picture made me smile and remember this sweet moment.
I am also posting as a sweet friend’s daughter Isabelle is having a major reconstructive leg surgery Thursday 15th, from 7am for 10 - 12 hours in Seattle please send her lots of good vibes. Isabelle too searched out a baby to snuggle recently & her Mom posted about it, I completely got it nothing like baby cuddles to lift up the heart. Along with snow flakes & ice cream!
So if you can please spare a moment to send good thoughts for Isabelle & that Isabelle team of Dr are sleeping soundly and will be bright and supported during the surgery by more than their incredible brains, angels and spirt guides & her sweet family & friends too.
What do I reach out for to kick start the day? Lemon water of course! 🍋
It has been said that the benefits of lemon water are numerous, including boosting your immune system, aiding the digestive tract and may even help as a caffeine substitute. It is also packed with vitamin C, potassium, iron and magnesium amongst others.
Add a bit of lemon, and there is no excuse not to drink water.
How do you start your day?
I start my surgical clerkship next week and I am SO excited! Surgery is not a specialty I ever seriously considered pursuing, despite how awesome it is. This is why I’m so excited to start, because I know I’ll only get a few chances to be up close and personal to patients in the OR!
Have I ever entertained the idea? Sure, but in all honesty, I love sleeping, time off, and a somewhat regular schedule too much to sacrifice 7+ years of my life sleeping in hospital call rooms, eating cafeteria food, and working 80+ hours per week 😂
Maybe I’ll have a change of heart. Did you? I’d love to hear why you tell others to #picksurgery 💉
