NB: Dit is mijn manier.
#FastDutchies
With Half Marathon & Marathon season in full swing now, we are all training towards one common goal. I’m not talking about smashing a world record, smashing a PB, Winning races. I’m talking about being a better version of you than you were yesterday. .
At the end of the day that’s why we should ultimately doing this. From Mo Farah to Mo down the road. We all want to be better than we were. Whether that’s to lose weight, become faster, run longer, mental healing, recovering from an injury. We are all in it together. .
My 11th week of my Marathon Training brings me to my home county of Essex and my 3rd half marathon in Brentwood in Sunday. Really looking forward to be taking part and I am going to use this to practice my marathon pace for the first half of the race as I aim to do a #sub4 marathon @londonmarathon in a little over 5 weeks. .
Anyone else doing this?
The sun may have had his hat on today but man it was windy! 🏃♀️💨🏃♀️💨 Today's plan called for 7 miles with intervals and I decided today would be the day I would take on 4x800's @ 7:30 pace (big mistake...huge)
7:22/7:24/7:23/7:20 with 2 min recoveries 🤢
I totally misjudged the wind before leaving the house and had to fight my way through that session and it didn't seem to matter which way I ran, it was coming at me from all angles. HARD WORK but GOT IT DONE 👊🏻 W12D3 ✔️ Now to celebrate my my eldest turning 13 and enjoy 2 well earned rest days ahead of this weekends 20 miler 😊
I didn’t have to run today. I had every excuse in the world to skip. No one cares about my schedule. No one else is watching. But if I run, even just a mile, the day of a blizzard, it’s going to make #everydamnday that much easier. So I did.

What a difference a year makes! Some days I still can’t believe a. how far I’ve come b. that i ran a marathon three days ago or c. that I want to run one again! .
Last year (swipe for photo) I dropped down to the half and was so disappointed. This year, I showed up every day for 16 weeks and nailed my first marathon in 3:56:04. I’m proud of myself and thankful for everyone who has helped me along the way 💙
My postpartum running journey so far.
From securing my first official sub 2 Half Marathon 4 months postpartum to shaving nearly 10 mins off my PB time at Worthing Half Marathon last month.
This has by no means been an easy ride and there have been plenty of tears and doubts creeping in along the way but I am so proud of myself and when I cross the finish line at Brighton next month, whatever the outcome, I will know I have given it everything, the biggest thing being a complete change in mindset.
For all you running mama's out there who may be finding it hard (it is) but trust in the process and make time for you. You're all badass motherrunners and you've got this! 👊🏻 Never give up on your goals!
33 days and counting!
This is how my run felt.
“It’s 5am for 🤬s sake, just go back to bed.”
“No, you won’t run after work, you’ll be too tired.”
“I could do a run commute?”
“No, you have a heavy bag of stuff to take today and you don’t want to get on the bus and walk with that this morning”
“But you could get a lift from Ryan?”
“No, you can’t go to work that early because your work isn’t open”
“But my hamstrings hurt”
“No they don’t”
“And I had that little niggle in my hip”
“No you didn’t, it felt tight for two minutes about three weeks ago and has been fine since”
“But... BED 😭”
“But... warm. Sleep?”
“But SUB-4 MARATHON GOALS”
“Ugh, fine, I’m going”
(And this mental argument was the reason I only had time to do four miles instead of five.)
Sometimes running sucks. It’s hard, it’s effort and takes motivation we don’t have enough of. I’m in my last week of marathon training before tapering, so of course it’s hard and of course I’m tired but even my brain isn’t letting me talk myself out of it. I will be able to stand on that start line and say that I have done everything I possibly could to get there strong. I’m doing so well, and I will not stop now.
Remembering a true pioneer. A man who saw possible what others said couldn’t be done, and went for it! RIP Sir Roger Bannister 🙏🏻🏃🏽♂️
Remembering the late Roger Bannister, the first person to run a mile in under 4 minutes. But what makes this guy unique? “He viewed running as something to be done in his spare time away from the demands of his medical studies.”He was first and foremost committed to his studying medicine and impacting the world. Little did he know he would do much more than that in a different way.
He used his medical knowledge to devise his own training regime and investigate the mechanical aspects of running. He spent his lunch breaks from studies, training. Running was his hobby, something he did in his spare time. But what set Roger apart, was his ability to see an opportunity and run with it. He knew breaking the 4 minute mile was attainable and set out to achieve "the impossible".
YOU have magic inside of you. All you have to do is discover it.

When your teething baby has had you up since 4am and it's been raining all morning, it was only a matter of time before cabin fever well and truly set in and in these kinds of circumstances there really is only one thing for it... LACE UP & RUN ❤️🏃♀️ Loved every soaking minute of that run and it makes my ❤️feel so full to see her smiling (she actually is a very smiley dog😊) Taking things nice and steady this week ahead of Sunday's 20 miler. Although it's a training run, my aim is to hold on for as long as possible so I can gauge how close I am to that elusive #sub4 at Brighton in less than 5 weeks!!! 🙀

Thank you so much for all your encouragement and cheering!
Renewed my PR by 14min but couldn’t reach sub4 by9sec... Official time :4:00:08
Which means the challenge is still ahead!
Now we are on our way back home 3 hours late due to the blackout of the electricity of Shinkansen... Thank you again for your support Miguel! Can’t make it without you😘
The Mile races at the Dr. Sander Invitational at The Armory were 🔥
