Shalane, you ma #shero. A fellow UNC alum, 3x American record-holder, the first American woman to win the NY marathon in 40 years (!), and overall badass woman and runner.
This is my 3rd time meeting you, and I still get giddy every time I’m in your presence. Thanks for an awesome, motivational talk tonight - I needed a dose of Shalane inspo as I enter spring training. 🏃🏼♀️
WAHOO! Wisdom: Runners should always focus on eating a healthy and balanced diet of good quality carbohydrates, lean proteins, and healthy fats. But as runners we put a lot of stress on our bodies. That means when choosing foods, we need to think about ones that nourish your body and fight inflammation. The best foods for this are fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and color. Get creative and find ways to work in as many inflammation fighters as you can. And try other runner's recipes like these Muffins from 'eat slow, run fast'. They are packed full of the good stuff and a great way to recover from a long run.
What's your favorite recipe or your go to food for recovery?
Morala sam ju imati kao jedan nutricionist i dugoprugaš. Dojmove javim kada ju pročitam i isprobam koji recept. .... ... ...
The book traveled half the world to come to my hands today. Watching the last New York City Marathon, I found so much inspiration in @shalaneflanagan . The first American woman who won the NYC Marathon since 1977. Her entry into the finish line was so emotional. I did not know much about her then, but I saw that it was a moment of fulfillment of all her dreams. Later, I found this book with healthy recipes for athletes. I had to have it as a nutritionist and long-distance runner. Can't wait to read it and try some recipes.
On January 14, 2012 #karagoucher and #shalaneflanagan earned spots on the US Olympic team in the marathon trials race in Houston. Flanagan won. #deslinden also made the team. Flanagan finished 10th in London; Goucher 11th. They’re still running, as is Des.

Kicked off the long weekend with the @uwtrack Indoor Preview, featuring @shalaneflanagan 😍 We were lucky enough to bump into her while she was warming up on the outdoor track, then watched her CRUSH it in the women's 3K 🏅 Here's hoping this was just the first of many victories that she sees this year 🦄 😉
My first long run since November! I loved it. I listened to the "Run with Shalane" recording on the Nike+ Run Club app. By the end of her story it was like I had something in me eye maybe. 😏And the weird picture- my way of preventing the post-run coma: gummi vitamins at around the 70 min mark. Works for me. This handful includes a multi, a B12, and a bone & joint version. #running#longrun#doubleduty#shalaneflanagan#gateriverrun
Just the push I needed to run today 5.14 mi 8’45/mi 45:00.
Who wouldn’t want to run with Olympian Shalane Flanagan? Some days I listen to music or a podcast during my workout. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with audio guided runs. It’s like having your own running coach beside you. Running is far from easy, we all need that extra motivation to get through our workouts. Consider this new audio guided run or others offered through the Nike+Run Club App.
Not gymed since maybe 9th December not ran since 1st of January chest infection plus birth of my 2nd son has kept me wiped out for a month, this week I was diagnosed with asthma Dr says I've probably had it since childhood the chest infection is still here but I am able to breathe again with the inhaler . Did a lovely 10k easy pace 14.5/15.5/16.2 watching shanae flannnagan win the 2017 NYC marathon. ... once the chest infection goes I will ditch the inhaler. .....but until then I will be using it to avoid any more attacks. .feels good to be back.
"I just keep telling myself that there is going to be delayed gratification and a moment down the road that would make up for it." ~Shalane Flanagan, 2017 NYC marathon winner, referencing her injury that postponed her plans before her first major marathon victory This is how I am viewing my situation. I know one day that this past year of postponing dreams and addressing my chronic injuries will make that one sweet moment so worth it. Everyday, I envision that, especially when I am out on an easy run like last night.
You don't have to be a lip reader to tell the Shalane was excited to win the NY Marathon today!

What a day!! I ran with two of my favorite runners, Betsey and Jonny, and then was crewed by my greatest supporter and motivator, @melaniel01 . This race wouldn't have been as enjoyable without all three of them! I randomly was put on a snap story but it gives you an idea of how I got into the atmosphere and loved interacting with the crowd. Volunteers were awesome and very supportive! I was clicking along and enjoying people, the view of the lake, the signs, and especially the men dressed like women with balloon busts at the Dolly Parton hills hahaha when I hit the 20 mile hill I saw a friendly face, thanks Jarrod!, and pressed on trying to tell myself the hill wouldn't slow me down. I was building character ;) It phased me some because I couldn't quite get my pace back on track. But I did fuel better this race with all sorts of #generationucan and felt stronger for longer! I approached my last mile ready to take it home and with the cringe of a calf cramp coming I eased on in at 3:44:17. I met Shalane Flanagan at the finish! It was amazing to see her and Meb at the starting line. American champions encouraging us to find our inner champion! And that we did today :) thanks @bmwdallasmarathon for a well organized and inviting race! #dallasmarathon#bmwdallasmarathon2017#shalaneflanagan#marathon
