Few things in life make me happier than how much Holden loves Uncle Matt. It confuses my husband, he doesn’t get why I care so much. You see, my nephew can feel any way he wants about who I chose to marry, and he feels love and joy and exuberance with Matt. It make me feel so much joy and love to see him reach for Matt. They are going to be best buds and I couldn’t ask for anything else. #ilovemynephew#helovesmyhusband#purejoy#wheresyourbeard#funcle#sundaytrainrides#love

PURE JOY 😊 happens for me when I’m off my phone. I experience it when I spend time on my journal. I feel it when I’m out in nature. I’m in it when I’m in the simplest of interactions with someone I love and care for. Here, I’m in my happy places.
Explore something with me for a second... I find that we often hold ourselves back from feeling joy. Almost as if we aren’t “allowed” to. Have you ever experienced this?
I admit, I’ve robbed myself of joy more times than I can count. I’ve held back happy tears. I’ve felt shame immediately after feeling happy. I’ve experienced guilt while doing something that brings so much joy to my heart. I’ve talked myself out of engaging in happy things. I’ve even found myself in complete contentment not doing anythingggg in my solitude, silence and meditation... and purposely made myself busy and stressed because of our go-go-go culture! Why, why do we do this?
#MyMindfulnessPractice reminds me that I can feel all the different emotions on the spectrum. And sometimes, all the emotions all at the same time. I remind my students (and myself) that this is normal. That every emotion we experience is a part of our human experience. The trick, is not to let the emotions get the best of us.
Yes, by all means, feel deeply into joy, gratitude, happiness, contentment. But we also have to remember that—like the clouds in the sky ☁️ the rain on our heads ⛈ and the winds that are ever-changing—this is impermanent and that the other side of the spectrum exists too, so that it isn’t as devastating when the joy, gratitude, happiness or contentment fade and sadness, depression, anxiety, or fear arise.
☁️ Take a moment to close your eyes.
☁️ Take a deep breath in and audibly sigh it out. Repeat 5 times.
☁️ Bring awareness to where you are in this moment. The touch of your body on your seat, the feeling of your body supported by the earth.
☁️ Now take a moment to call on Joy.
☁️ Explore the following:
☁️ What does #purejoy feel like for you? What does it look like? Where do you feel the joy in your body? What are some physical manifestations of the joy you experience?
