Even at this angle you no doubt recognize this iconic structure. Built in 1887 - 1889 as the entrance to the World Fair being held in Paris, the design had many critics. It was intended to stand for a mere 20 years before being dismantled. Popular opinion has a way of silencing critical voices and now the Eiffel Tower is unquestionably ine of the most easily recognizable structures in the world. . . . .
In my posts I often right about my feelings at the time I took the picture, and the emotions attached to the memory. After staring at this photo for quite some time, I realize I have no such emotional attachment to this icon of icons. I admire the aesthetics, the design and engineering. I am intrigued by the history. I recall the fun day I enjoyed in Paris. But there is no stirring of emotion as there is with other photos that tell a story of the people and the culture. And that is why I travel - it's about the people, their life and their story. Of course, that's just me. I understand if you feel differently. That's what makes life and people interesting.
