Thankful for @jeandahlia and her mini for holding down @maejeanvintage headquarters while we were off in NYC taking our Gem Identification lab class at GIA! We are headed home with some great new inventory for the shop, and a wealth of knowledge! 💎💎💎
Some of you may remember that I faced a bit of a mystery with the bigger ring in the photo. It was sold as jade but to my eyes looks like an emerald. My jeweler checked it on his refractometer and said that despite its looks, it reads as jade after all.
Now I got another "jade" ring, set in a lovely vintage 18k gold ring. This stone looks much more like I would expect jade to look, BUT it has considerable surface abrasions. You wouldn't expect that from real jade, would you?
I've finally reached the point where I can't take the mystery. Curiosity wins, and I'm sending both rings off to NYC to get checked out by a lab. They'll be up in my shop when they return from their travels. ✈️ #gemstones#vintagejewelry#diamondhalo#jade#emerald#mystery#gemology#gemidentification#gemlab#jewelsofinstagram
