I decided to join @hannahd.episode’s #VenomousCC because this story literally had me blown away from the moment I began reading... around two years ago. I remember stumbling upon the Classic version way back when, but I was an idiot and was going through an “All Classic Stories Are Trash”™️ phase and decided not to read it. Then, lo and behold a year or so later, the Ink version is released as a Featured Story and I ate this sh*t up. Maria and Ian have been the only true couple to have truly shaken me to my core. I usually don’t read prison/bad boy/criminal stories... but this isn’t any of that. This is two souls who are trapped in their places in society. If they were any other man and woman they could have their happily ever after and have ridden off into the sunset after a few chapters. But they can’t. Because Ian has to serve his people and protect his legacy, and Maria needs to avenge justice for the deaths of her parents. And the only obstacle to their goal are each other. The moment I started to read this story, I. Was. SHAKING! I loved it then, and I love it now, and I will love it long after the story ends and the two characters reach their final destination, their conclusion, their ending: even if it’s not a happy ending. Because life doesn’t always have happy endings. And this story is life in its rawest form.
I chose this picture instead of explosions or romance or fight scenes or anything flashy because Maria takes a breath. She BREATHES. She takes a moment to think and reflect. And in this fast-paced story, the characters never seem to catch a break and remember what they’re fighting for. And I hope in this moment, Maria is remembering what she is fighting for. Maybe it’s for revenge. Maybe it’s for Ian. But we aren’t Maria, and only she knows what she wants.
Thank you, @hannahd.episode for creating this masterpiece. ❤️
