Respite: “a brief period of rest or relief”. It was a long-short weekend at camp, but we picked up our tired boy this afternoon, glued to his new buddy Adam. They had a jam-packed time with dance, hay ride, crafts, visit from Santa, and awards ceremony. Caleb got the “fastest slider” award and proved it by moving non-stop the entire time his buddy says lol.
Meanwhile, it was a nice “respite” for Mom and Dad, who finished up Christmas shopping (YES!!!), wrapped it all up and got the last Christmas cards out the door. Looking forward to just a few days left of school and then time to enjoy the holidays while we count down to the big day.
Breaks are important to give each other time to rest and time to grow. Especially parents of kids with unique needs. Thanks to @campiamspecial we are rested up and ready for Christmas! .

The glowing tent shot has become a staple on Instagram, but not all images in this style are created equal. All too often, photographers pitch tents in places where it is illegal to do so — or in places where it is just silly, like the edge of a cliff — in an attempt to create a photo that will blow up on The 'Gram. It's bad enough when regular Jills and Joes do this, but when influencers with sizable followings create such imagery, the wilderness is left to suffer. The glowing tents you see on #KingdomCalifornia (mostly my trusty @llbean Microlight FS2) were all pitched to be a camp first and foremost, serving as a humble base for photography missions. I slept in this and other spots you'll see on this feed, usually for a few nights or more. I understand images like these are often considered trendy and overdone, but I still enjoy taking them when they're sincere. Personally, these shots take me back to special places — in this case, the Alabama Hills — and what it felt like to be more or less alone there. On a grander level, I appreciate the way these images use scale to set mankind against the much greater and more dominant backdrop of our planet and the universe. Sheltering away in our little tents, we are truly at the mercy of it all. 🌌 // 5.6.2016 // #EasternSierra#AlabamaHills#VisitCalifornia#WildCalifornia#camping#campfire#camp#MilkyWay#NightSky#CampVibes //
