“If you’re alive, you’re a creative person.” —Elizabeth Gilbert I have been focusing a lot on creativity and what it means to live a creative life. Working on collecting my thoughts on the subject (more on this to come... 😉). But for now... I’m thankful to connect with fellow creative souls who allow me to showcase their gifts. 😊💕 @liz.wallace.47 HMU by @apriljemeshairandmakeupdesign
The results from a spiral perm!
Spiral perms can be done in several different ways.
This one in particular was done with basic concave perm rods in white and orchid. (See previous post.)
In the past I’ve also done spiral perms with loop rods and foam rods.
The reason a spiral perm is done in favor of a basic perm wrap is not because of the curl pattern. A spiral is done to accommodate the length of hair and to achieve a consistent curl pattern all throughout.
Spiral perms cost more than a basic perm, and they are much more labor intensive. ➰➰➰

When I was in #beautyschool I learned to do a spiral perm.
At that time my instructor told me that they weren’t done anymore. She said I’d never actually have to do a spiral perm in the salon. •••
I couldn’t be happier to say how wrong she was.
I’ve done so many spiral perms over the last few years! And I love them so much. Wrapping a perm feels like meditation.
And then end result? Well, it’s just beautiful. 😊
I’m needing some umph to get me through this week... the warmer temps today sure make me ready for spring. ☀️ And this image of @becca_dim3o rocking it makes me 😊.

Girl, take me to the beach! You know your lucky when your client takes a personal day to get her hair done and take time for herself ! I felt so honored to freshen up this chicks locks! We added brightness around her face and also created more texture and movement by removing the weight in her ends!

Can't believe we are a week into 2018. Starting a new year could be about being on the fence between the new and the old. But the best fences are the kind you can see through... I'm still thinking about the year that has passed but I have my eye on the one ahead. 😉 #classof2018#classof2019#ericamckimmeyphotography
Ha Ha Tonka State Park
Wealthy Kansas City businessman Robert Snyder had a dream to construct a European-styled castle right in his beloved Missouri. To this end Snyder purchased 5,000 acres of land, including his very own lake, and began work on the evocative mansion in 1905. The businessman even imported stone masons from Europe to achieve the correct style, but unfortunately Snyder would not live to see his dream house to completion. Construction on the house had begun in earnest, but in 1906, Snyder was killed in one of Missouri’s first car accidents. However Snyder’s dream castle would not die with him.
After his death, Snyder’s sons continued work on the building and were able to complete the castle by 1920. After completing construction, one of Snyder’s sons took up residence in the huge castle until the family’s money ran out due to land rights lawsuits surrounding the castle’s property. After Snyder the younger’s depression and poverty drove him from the house the building was opened as a hotel and lodge until 1942 when the entire building was utterly destroyed by a fire.
The state purchased the property in the 1970’s and has worked to preserve the crumbled walls of Snyder’s dream home as a feature in their state park. Visitors can now explore the bones of the “castle” that brought down the Snyder kingdom.
