Zero Limits on DU135
It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce our newest sponsor @altrarunningaustralia
It really is the perfect sponsor for DU135 and not just because of the Zero Limits needed on your courage to face up and run our race but the full Altra story and their values align with why this race was created.
Altra sponsors the biggest BIG ULTRA races in the world so to have their confidence backing us and what we are doing is very humbling.
We also know the Altra product can stand up to the gnarliness of DU135 with some amazing shoes that suit our unique course.
Special thanks Trent for backing 4 blokes and all involved having a crack at creating something special.
My car breaking down came at the perfect time. I’m really progressing with letting things go - not only through purging material goods but more importantly with emotional stress. I too often become comfortable with what I have and take daily conveniences for granted. .
I haven’t been stressed about not having a car. I’ve been in no hurry to remedy the situation. Many people don’t seem to understand this but perhaps they’ve never tried to. It’s just a car. There are many other ways to get around. I had forgotten how much I love run-commuting. I even ran to the bus station yesterday to get where I needed to go. It’s simple really. I like simple.
I was fully expecting my car repairs to extend beyond the value of the car. I was going to have it towed 70 miles and leave it until I decided to trade it in for something new. They called today and the repairs aren’t that costly. So I’m getting it fixed as I continue my search for a van. She apologized that they wouldn’t have it done until the weekend. I again stated that I’m in no hurry. I was kind of bummed to learn I’d be getting my car back this weekend. I will make a pact with myself to spend more time run-commuting. It’s way more fulfilling than relying upon something that is by no means a necessity.
🔥 LIL TWEAKS = BIG DIFFERENCE 🔥
💁🏻♂️ I’ll keep this short one and sweet…
👌🏼 Making little tweaks in relation to the portion sizes of the foods you eat can have a BIG impact on your fitness progress (in either direction).
📊 Whether your goal is to lose excess body fat (adjusting calorie dense foods down in portion size) or gain muscle in a bulk (adjusting calorie dense foods up in portion size), you can manipulate simple variables for better, more sustainable results.
🔁 And in this example, it’s key to understand that you do NOT need to restrict yourself. You CAN enjoy the foods you love. You CAN have a steak and lose body fat. You CAN drink wine when dieting. You CAN live your live and do “fitness” at the same time. And this is so so so important to understand.
🥗 In this example, adding more veggies to your plate to help fill you up is a great way to consume fewer total calories because you’ll need less of the calorie dense stuff (like steak and potatoes). The other thing you can do is simply drink more water. This a great tip for enjoying bigger meals — have water beforehand!
😄 Plus, I want to be clear… sometimes, the meal on the left makes a lot of sense. This isn’t a “eat this, not that” post, it’s simply to showcase how portions can dictate total calories per meal, and how total calories per meal can lead to, or prevent fitness progress. Got it?

“The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, 'cause
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb (yeah)” - oh yes I DID, just quote Miley Cyrus 🙌🏼🙌🏼 7 Stroller miles // 8:17 pace with the 5 middle miles being all at a steady uphill climb. It’s runs like this that make me feel like a can handle anything that the day will throw at me now (which lately has been a lot!) Keep on trucking friends - we’ve got this! ✨
Alright y’all, I told you it wasn’t pretty!
In this photo from @urimiscott I am thinking “Damnit this straightaway has been like a mile long #AREWETHEREYET also I am cold, also there is beer in my car, also RUN FASTER because you’re reeeeally close to missing your goal!”
But guess what?
I DID IT!!! 1:22:52, 64 seconds faster than my 6-min PR from October.
I never doubted my abilities, but given the perfect day I had in October I wasn’t sure things would fall into place the same way. And ya know what? They didn’t, but I’m a few months stronger and more confident now and I knew I had it in me.
This time around, I came down with a cold during #raceweek (as @calneff impedsonated on the latest #tacomamedia podcast “wahhh I have the sniffles”). I did everything I could to zap it, including:
🤧10 hour sleeps
🤧Tons of hot tea
🤧Eating a lot of #nutrientdense foods
🤧An expectorant to cough it out on Saturday, and
🤧Plenty of #positivity
Day-of, I was just excited. So many friends were running, so many amazing elite athletes were running, and I got to start in a special corral and not worry about peeing one million times before the start!
At one point, I spent a mile running by @deena8050. I saw so many friends. I drew in as much energy from the crowd as I could and smiled and laughed, as one does while running faster than ever before (right??)
When the half splits from the full, it gets a little quieter. The breeze was making my legs a little cold and sluggish, and I had less people to run with. I found my miles getting slower, but I was still feeling okay. I just had to force each step, pick off people in the distance, and keep moving.
It wasn’t easy. It never is! But I can tell you that once I got past that passing wave of post race nausea, I had no doubt that I want to keep working my 🍑 off, because there is SO MUCH MORE to come. Honestly, just loving running and my running fam right now.

Florida: where the best running weather of the year shows up in January. Had to bundle up a *little* more for this week’s pre-dawn runs though. 🤙🏻 #TeamOCRBeast

Chasing those goals, one golden sunrise at a time. ✨ Met up for my second group run of the weekend (I know, who is this girl that does group runs on the regular now?!) to tackle some hills together. A quarter mile from our cars, we turn and look at each other and both ask in unison, “Do you wanna sprint the rest of the way back?!” My watch clocked us going at 5:35 pace and I think I was screaming, “I can’t feel me feet!” Hahaha. Fun way to start off our days. 🙌🏼
