Description of project: The objective of this project is to engage a selected group of High School Students, that are passionate and committed to their artistic creation, to participate in a hands-on experiential eight-week program. The program will guide and prepare them to develop an artistic life and habits, prepare a college competitive art portfolio and eventually prepare them to conduct interviews with higher education institution in hopes to join an arts program as a career path.

Sam is a new yoga teacher. She comes to one of my advanced yoga classes each week. She likes to push her limits but wants to do so in a safe way. She wants to have strength through range of motion and wants to maintain her flexibility as she builds strength. She has noticed that as she builds upper body strength she has started to decrease upper body range of motion. She and I have worked together on a number of short sequences that she has plugged into her practice but here is a bit of one of them. Such a mundane thing, but if you think about some parts of the world still being without, and not having this if we had been born just a few generations back, it really is amazing. Nurture yourself .
This week I noticed a theme with women in my life and on the gram. Unfortunately, I’m guilty for it too. Fortunately, my trade expects me to not only be aware and educated on the topic but also holds me VERY accountable
The topic?! Nurturing yourself, self love, self-esteem, stress management. We are all guilty, especially as mothers. Women tend to put the needs and wants of others before their own. Men are guilty for this too (especially fathers) but today I’m talking to my ladies because based on what I seen and read this week- I was called to do so
As a result to putting the needs of others first and never taking the time for self care, we may build a unconscious resentment toward the people whom we care for. Not only do we begin to show unconscious anger towards the ones we care for but our health begins to slowly plummet. Outcomes due to lack of self care will show up as depression, fatigue, eating disorders, alcoholism and over indulging in social media. This is a major cause for hatred, jealousy and joylessness
In order to feel free to nurture yourself and care for yourself, the way you care for others- you first have to feel and know that you are worthy of nurturing and love. Why do we put our selves last? We do so because we are taught that to love ourselves is selfish and self indulgent👎 No! We are doing more than ever before! It is NOT self indulgent it is NEEDED
Here are a few of my suggestions
✨light some candles while you’re taking a shower and play your favorite music ✨treat yourself to a mani-pedi, a massage, or a hair cut and a scalp massage💆🏽♀️
✨join a community of women and talk it out, workout🏋🏽♀️ it out or just enjoy the positive space
✨join a community where you feel safe-yoga studio, church, Counseling, seminars ✨journal📝
✨meditate 5-10 minutes a day🧘♀️
✨arrange for a couple hours of uninterrupted time
✨go for a walk ✨Eat a high energy meal and drink water ✨plan a nice dinner by yourself or with a friend
I will be hosting my 2nd Wellness Day in May in the city of Long Beach🌊💛 Topic will be on stress management💆🏽♀️ it’ll definitely be a treat

It’s so satisfying and humbling to hear these young men speak and share about their experience thus far at Kapalai. When they entered the program, most of them didn’t want to jump into the mud, they didn’t want to do the work, they didn’t want to even be here.
Today, for the most part they are excited to come and look forward to jumping in. Those who might not say “excited” still understand and accept the program and know that their work is important and appreciated.
Today they chose to do the powerful lifting by helping us to move the mud in our newest patch to level everything out. As they were jumping in I could hear them saying what a good workout this was going to be. 💪🏽
