After this big ram was missed on day two, the herd of sheep traveled miles away, to 16,000 plus feet in a rocky and remote part of the hunting area. Bryan and his client hunted the group of rams for three days out of a spike camp, located 2 to 3 hours hike from the last jeep road access point. They utililized a summer yak herders rock hut, equipped with an old yak dung burning stove for heat, as the other hunter and the guides didn't have warm enough sleeping bags to sleep in the hilleberg keron 4 gt tent we normally use. The night temps were negative 5 to negative 10 Fahrenheit at 14,200 feet.
Normally there is quite a bit of snow in late november but this year it was dry, cold and dusty. Water bottles were filled with hot water each morning to keep them from freezing during the day. Packs from kifaru, eberlestock, sitka, mystery ranch and one russian company were loaded to the max to pack our gear and the sheep out. It was the first time anyone spiked out in november here, but the end results were worth the effort.
Truly an unforgettable hunt and the foundations are laid for future expeditions into this region where we know those other giant rams are living.
