Such a beautiful image of blooming motherhood. But there is a beautiful story to go with it, too : #Repost@freebirthsociety ・・・
My vision in starting this project was small. I simply wanted a space where I could network free birthing mamas, and if a few other women heard the podcast and were inspired to take more responsibility for their birthing experiences, great, my work here is done. But in the last few months I get emails and messages like this EVERY SINGLE DAY - women and families who have found the podcast and it gave them the courage to follow their truth. I received this one yesterday and just had to share, because wow. In a world where so many women are being assembly lined forced into unnecessary surgery, completely robbed of support and the chance of a normal birthing experience, these emails remind me how hungry women are for autonomy and normal birth and we must keep going. .
Hello Free Birth Society,
I am a South African woman living in Tasmania with my husband and two beautiful boys, the second of which is three months old. I free-birthed him in front of our warm fire on a winters night with just my husband and first born son present. Our first son was born naturally in hospital and I suffered a fourth degree tear and was therefore advised that a caesarean section would be the most convenient option for the birth of this baby to "eliminate risk".
I was adamant that I would like to birth this baby naturally and somehow, I stumbled across your podcast interview with Lacey. I didn't even know that there was such a thing as free birthing until that moment and when I told my husband Laceys story, his first reaction was, "Would you like me to deliver this baby?" and so a seed was planted.
The birth could not have been more beautiful.
With warmest regards,
There is something about Sharen's birth, at The Birth House in Geelong, that epitomizes the sacred beauty and awe of birth. When a woman is truly safe and supported, she is able to sink into a deep relaxation and altered consciousness. @the_birth_house *
"I want to tell you about the calm in the center of a storm. About a timeless place of softly swirling nothing. About drifting weightless across eons that span mere moments. About a galaxy inside of each of us that is filled with peace and trust and so much depth. *
This is the space between contractions..... Time has no beginning or end in this space. The only mark of its passage is the cresting wave of another surge of pain building, tightening, pulsing, pushing you into this world. And then the wave falls away under my bow, releasing me back to the vast swirling drift"
All the glory and power of birth - and of birthing women - in this post from Birth Without Fear @birthwithoutfear : "Oxytocin! Its what makes a baby and the same chemical to bring a baby into this world.
This is my midwife. About half my size but f**k me her energy fills up a room. When Mattaeus first met her he said to me "So how is she supposed to catch the baby?
With over 20 something years experience, she knew what to say at exactly the right time. She gave me space when I needed it, encouraged me when I needed and empowered me by letting me know exactly what my body and baby was doing at each stage. The best part, she was hands-off the whole time. No poking, no prodding, no second guessing me, just trust.
The midwife was checking to see if his umbilical cord had stop pulsing before I pushed the placenta out. The wonderful thing about being at home is there is no time frame. Everything that happens after is all dependent on how i feel or what i want to do.
Also for those who think homebirths are messy?? Yeah a few wet towels... and maybe a salad bowl to be thrown out that was used to scoop up my s**t - all perfectly normal
Water was drained via the hose onto the grass, pool liner thrown out and pool deflated and packed away for the next birthing mother." - Vanessa Voigt (benessa_v)
