Yesterday was our first wedding anniversary.
After 365 days of being married to this Italian of mine, I’ve learned a little more about myself, about him and about what it means to be in a marriage.
It’s important to marry someone that you really truly love. Not just on the surface, but the deep down kind of love. Marry someone who you can tell everything to; the good, the bad and the things that even rattle your very core. Marry someone who accepts you, even when you don't accept yourself. Marry someone who is your calm, your rock and your best friend. Marry someone that makes you laugh. Marry someone who says goodnight, every night, no matter where they are in the world and what time difference it is. Marry someone who doesn't make fun of you for analyzing all the fruit you consume to ensure there are no bruised parts. Marry someone who doesn't mind the crazy voices you make to your dog. Marry someone who matches your weirdness. Marry someone who you can have a secret conversation with just by the tightness of their hand holding. Marry someone who doesn't judge you when you eat an entire bag of Goldfish crackers in one sitting. Marry someone who will drive you to the airport after flying over night and arriving just before you have to head out. Marry someone who is proud of you, all of you. Marry someone who gives you butterflies every time you hear their keys in the door. Marry someone who accepts your quirks, phobias and questionable habits. Marry someone who takes the voice recording of your wedding ceremony (because you recorded it audibly instead of choosing to have a videographer) and makes it into animated video that he gives you on your anniversary. Marry your soulmate, your partner in life and the person you call “home”. I married that person and I couldn't be more in love with him if I tried, although I’ve said that before and each time, I fall more and more. Anth, you are the best part of my life and you always will be. Thank you for being home on our anniversary, but mostly, thank you for marrying me. xo
